Cow and Goat Story
A Unique Idea

Once there was a village which was surrounded by a variety of small and huge hills and in the middle of these hills flowed a stream. The flow of water in the stream was quite fast. The people of the village seldom needed to cross the stream and that was why there was no proper bridge built to cross the stream. However there was a piece of log placed across the stream which served as a small bridge for the purpose of crossing the stream occasionally. The bridge was very narrow and only one person could cross over it at one time. If two people had to cross the bridge then one person had to wait for the other to cross it first. There lived a poor family in the village. They had a herd of sheep and goats and they would earn their living by selling the milk and wool of the sheep. The owner of the herd would often take the herd of sheep and goats for grazing across the bridge. He would make the herd walk in a line over the bridge and after grazing he would bring them back in the same manner. One day, a goat went to cross the bridge alone without the herd. When she had crossed half of the bridge, a cow came from the other side and said to her angrily. “You foolish goat! You better get out of my way or else you will be in great trouble.When the goat heard the cow she replied, "I have come more than half of the bridge so I have the right to cross the bridge first and you must go back." When the cow heard this she became angry and said to the goat, "I say that you should better get out of my way or else will throw you in the stream" The goat thought to herself that the cow was stronger than her and could easily beat her up so it was better to think of some other way out of this problem. Finally she had an idea in her mind so she spoke to the cow with great respect. "My dear cow, just think carefully that if we are going to fight while standing over this bridge, it will break and we both will fall into the stream. We must think of some other way to solve this problem." the cow said to the goat. "The only way to solve this problem is that you will have to go back and let me cross this bridge first. You will have to obey in any condition." The goat replied, "No I have another idea, if I sit down on the bridge you can jump over me, that is how both of us will not have to go back and you will also feel proud of your superiority over me." The proud cow liked this idea and the goat sat down on the bridge waiting for the cow to jump over her. The cow came running to jump over the goat but suddenly lost her balance because of her heavy weight and fell into the stream. After getting rid of the cow the goat crossed the bridge with great satisfaction.
